Nia Long reveals that she unintentionally turned down Prince when he attempted to make a romantic advance, stating, “I didn’t know”
Nia Long reflects on the moment when Prince reportedly made a move, noting that she was unaware she was being courted by one of the most iconic figures in music history.
During an appearance on Angie Martinez’s “IRL” podcast, Long reminisced about wearing a pair of “Kenneth Cole black snake-embossed shoes” on the night when “Prince tried to talk to me, and I didn’t know it was Prince.”
Long recounted that the late music icon reached for her hand, but she withdrew it as she did not recognize him at that moment. It was only when she reached the car that her friend finally revealed his identity.
“She goes, ‘Girl, you know that was Prince,’” Long remarked. “I asked, ‘Why didn’t you inform me before we exited the building?’”
When asked what she might have done differently, Long confessed, “If I had known it was Prince, I would have simply turned around and said hello.”
Years later, Long mentioned that she encountered Prince once more after her transition into acting, but the atmosphere had shifted.
“He was lovely, but he talked about my hair the whole time because he liked my haircut,” she shared. “He was no longer taking a shot.” He was not.
