The West African nation has been confronting an Islamist insurgency that has originated from Mali, resulting in the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions in the area over the last ten years.
Burkina Faso’s Communications Minister, Gilbert Ouedraogo, announced that the decision came into effect on Friday, accusing France of backing “subversive networks” and “terrorists,” allegations that France has denied in the past.
