Senegal goalkeeper Mendy will miss the World Cup match against Iraq due to a knee injury.

A knee injury sustained during Monday’s loss to Norway has sidelined Senegal keeper Edouard Mendy for Friday’s World Cup match against Iraq, his national team announced on Wednesday.

Mendy sustained the injury while attempting to make a save, exiting the field in the 63rd minute with Norway ahead 3-1. Norway triumphed with a score of 3-2, thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s second goal during added time.

Media reports indicated that Mendy, 34, had experienced a ligament issue.

Further medical examinations are currently in progress to accurately evaluate the specifics of his injury and establish the path for his involvement in the competition,” the Senegal team shared on X.

Senegal and Iraq are both entering their final Group I game in Toronto after experiencing two losses.
