Iran left a note of thanks in the LA locker room following their draw with Belgium

Iran left a note in their SoFi Stadium locker room on Sunday expressing gratitude to Los Angeles for its warm welcome during the World Cup. They conveyed that they are departing with dignity after a 0-0 draw with Belgium, which has kept their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages alive.

Los Angeles has been the venue for both of Iran’s Group G matches to date, with the team returning to their base in Tijuana, Mexico, in between the games.

Iran have spent the tournament based in Tijuana, commuting to the U.S. for their matches due to restrictions surrounding their stay in the country, while several members of Iran’s team staff and officials have been banned.

U.S. officials have indicated that they will continually evaluate the squad’s travel arrangements, while ongoing talks aim to ease certain restrictions. “From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast,” stated the handwritten note released by Iran’s football federation.

Thank you, Los Angeles, for your warm hospitality. “We arrived in Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and depart with dignity.departed

The note expressed gratitude to Iranian supporters who contributed their “heart, voice, and soul” for the team during the two matches and concluded with a plea for peace, respect, and friendship among all nations.

Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei has consistently expressed his concerns regarding the travel restrictions placed on the team, highlighting the unique challenges they have encountered that no other side has had to face.

Iran, having drawn 2-2 with New Zealand in their opener at SoFi Stadium, will face Egypt in their final group match in Seattle.
