UK actress faces charges related to an alleged A$296 million meth-smuggling scheme

British actress Emaa Hussen is facing drug trafficking charges following the seizure of A$296 million worth of meth by Australian authorities.

A British actress known for her role in an EastEnders spin-off and a Hollywood action film has been charged in Australia for allegedly attempting to import methamphetamine valued at nearly A$300 million.

Emaa Hussen, 34, faced a Sydney court on Thursday following charges of attempting to import a significant quantity of methamphetamine into Australia. If found guilty, she could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Australian authorities allege that Hussen was involved in a scheme to import around 320 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden within bags of charcoal shipped from Ghana. The estimated street value of the drugs is A$296 million.

Investigators report that the shipment reached Sydney’s Port Botany, where border officials identified irregularities during standard screening procedures. X-ray examinations of two shipping containers revealed suspicious contents concealed among bags of charcoal.

Further testing verified the existence of methamphetamine, leading authorities to initiate a controlled operation. The police confiscated the drugs prior to permitting the shipment to proceed to a storage facility in Girraween, located in western Sydney.

Investigators claim that Hussen subsequently visited the facility and oversaw the unloading of the container. Several bags were loaded into a vehicle and taken to a property in Blacktown, where police later arrested her.

Authorities seized electronic devices and a notebook during their investigation.

The case is part of a broader investigation that has resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects in Adelaide. Authorities have charged a 30-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man for allegedly utilizing false identities to rent storage facilities associated with the shipment.

Hussen, known for his role as Naz in the EastEnders spin-off E20, also shared the screen with Jason Statham in the 2013 action thriller Hummingbird.

The Australian Federal Police stated that the seizure thwarted approximately 3.2 million individual drug transactions from making their way onto the streets.

Detective Acting Superintendent Trevor Robinson characterized the operation as a major setback for organized crime, while Australian Border Force Superintendent Jared Leighton noted that criminal networks frequently try to conceal illegal substances within ordinary products.
