Tunisia has parted ways with Lamouchi following a significant defeat to Sweden in the World Cup

Tunisia has parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi after suffering a heavy 5-1 loss to Sweden in their first World Cup match.

Tunisia has dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following their 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening FIFA World Cup match, as announced by the Tunisian Football Federation on Monday.

The federation announced Lamouchi’s dismissal in a statement shared on its Instagram account, indicating that an agreement had been reached to conclude the 54-year-old’s tenure and that steps were being taken to appoint Mondher Kebaier as interim coach.

“An agreement has been formally established to part ways with coach Sabri Lamouchi,” the statement read. “Efforts are being made to designate Mondher Kebaier as the interim coach of the national team.”

Lamouchi departs from the position fewer than six months after his appointment in January. His position had faced growing examination in the past weeks, especially following Tunisia’s 5-0 loss to Belgium in a pre-World Cup friendly held in Brussels.

Tunisia will now focus on Saturday’s important group-stage match against Japan in Guadeloupe as they seek to rejuvenate their World Cup campaign. They will wrap up their group fixtures against the Netherlands in Kansas City.
