Iran has announced that a funeral for the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will take place in July
Iran has planned funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei in various cities throughout July amid ongoing diplomatic uncertainty and regional tensions.
Iranian state media has revealed the timetable for the funeral of the late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, with ceremonies planned in various cities throughout July amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Farewell ceremonies are set to commence in Tehran on July 4 and 5, as indicated by reports. A state funeral is set to take place on July 6 in the Iranian capital, followed by additional ceremonies in the holy city of Qom on July 7.
Khamenei will subsequently be interred at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad after another funeral ceremony on July 9.
The announcement arrives amid ongoing uncertainty regarding a possible agreement between Iran and the United States. US President Donald Trump announced that a deal with Tehran is set to be signed on Sunday, stating that the Strait of Hormuz will be “open to all” as soon as the agreement comes into effect.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman stated earlier that it was unlikely any signing would take place on Sunday, noting that an agreement might instead be achieved in the “coming days.”
Meanwhile, conflict persists throughout the region. Israel conducted a series of attacks in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least five individuals, and issuing new displacement orders that impact numerous communities.
In Gaza, Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians in the southern city of Khan Younis, and additional injuries were reported in separate incidents in Gaza City.
Hezbollah reported that it conducted 22 attacks on Israeli forces within the last 24 hours, employing drones and rocket barrages targeting military positions and troop deployments in southern Lebanon. The group asserted that they have successfully intercepted Israeli drones multiple times utilizing surface-to-air missiles.
