Teams have arrived in Tanzania for the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship
Several teams have arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in preparation for the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship. The teams from Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda have already arrived in preparation for the season-opening CECAFA 2026 tournament.
Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Manager of Competitions, expressed to Cecafaonline today their satisfaction that all the teams will arrive in Dar es Salaam ahead of the tournament starting on June 13th.
“We anticipate that this tournament will provide players in the zone with valuable international exposure while also aiding the Kenyan team in their preparation for the final qualifying match in the FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers,” added Mossi.
He also clarified that CECAFA has chosen an all-female team of referees to officiate the tournament. Kenya is set to take on Sudan in the opening match of Group A on June 13th, coinciding with the hosts Tanzania’s clash against Somalia at the KMC stadium.
On June 14th, two Group B matches will be held at the Azam Complex, featuring South Sudan versus Zanzibar and Uganda facing Djibouti. The competition, featuring eight teams including newcomers Somalia and Sudan, will culminate on June 23rd.
Group A consists of Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan.
Group B consists of Uganda, South Sudan, Djibouti, and Zanzibar.
