Sacramento Sheriff’s Office Uses Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat” As Soundtrack For Theft Operation

A retail theft operation transformed into a viral sensation as surveillance footage, arrests, and a striking soundtrack made their way onto social media.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is drawing attention for reasons beyond arrests, as a video of a Target sting operation has begun circulating online, featuring Yung Miami’s viral track “Spend Dat” in the background. The Sacramento Target sting video presents surveillance footage of purported thefts occurring within the store, followed by a series of arrests. The result resembles a law enforcement summary that feels more akin to a social media edit than a typical departmental update. 

On June 3, 2026, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced that its Organized Retail Crime Task Force collaborated with Target as part of a National Organized Retail Theft Blitz. The department stated that the initiative concentrated on pinpointing and capturing habitual offenders and retail thieves. By the conclusion of the operation, deputies reported a total of seven arrests. This included two felony arrests under Proposition 36, three additional felony drug-related charges, and two warrant arrests associated with five outstanding warrants. Deputies issued ten trespass notices and cited additional individuals. 

The serious aspect is evident: organized retail theft has emerged as a significant priority for law enforcement and retailers in California. The California Highway Patrol states that organized retail theft may involve coordinated stealing, receiving stolen merchandise, recruiting individuals, or participating in a systematic plan to acquire items for resale or exchange.

Nonetheless, the internet became fixated on the selection of music. Combining the alleged Target theft footage with “Spend Dat” was an intriguing coincidence, particularly given the song’s significant traction online. One viral repost highlighted that viewers were responding to the production choice, with some humorously suggesting that “the production team must be Black.” 

In its statement, the Sheriff’s Office expressed, “Organized retail theft continues to affect businesses, employees, and consumers across our community.” The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is committed to working with our retail partners to hold offenders accountable and protect local businesses.

Now, the sting encompasses two narratives: the arrests and the rollout. The suspects will undergo the legal process, yet the sheriff’s office has already triumphed with the algorithm.
