Atletico Madrid has rejected Real Madrid’s €150 million bid for Julian Alvarez
Atletico Madrid has turned down Real Madrid’s €150m bid for Julian Alvarez, emphasizing that the striker’s €500m release clause is in effect.
Atletico Madrid has turned down a €150 million (£130 million) offer from Real Madrid for Julian Alvarez, as the Spanish club is unwilling to entertain negotiations below the striker’s €500 million (£430 million) release clause.
The offer was submitted shortly after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez secured re-election, honoring a commitment made during his campaign to seek a prominent “galactico” signing.
Real Madrid announced that they have officially submitted a proposal to Atletico Madrid regarding the transfer of the Argentine international’s federative rights. Atletico, however, rejected the offer and directed the European giants to Alvarez’s release clause.
“Following a thorough review and assessment of the offer, Club Atletico de Madrid has conveyed its appreciation for the proposal… and has declined it, citing the player’s release clause,” Real Madrid stated.
Atletico Madrid had yet to provide an official response at the time this was written.
Alvarez made the move to Atletico from Manchester City in a transfer valued at £81.5 million in 2024 and had a remarkable season last year, netting 20 goals in 49 matches. The 2022 World Cup winner contributed to Atletico’s fourth-place finish in La Liga and their advancement to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
