Trump Calls on Israel and Iran to Cease Hostilities Following Recent Attacks

Trump has called for a ceasefire following the first direct strikes between Israel and Iran since the ceasefire in April.

US President Donald Trump has urged Israel and Iran to stop hostilities and seek an immediate ceasefire following their first direct strikes since a ceasefire agreement was implemented in April.

The renewed confrontation commenced following Iran’s missile launch at northern Israel, which led to Israeli air strikes targeting locations in western and central Iran. The exchange represented the initial direct assaults by the two regional adversaries on one another’s territory since the truce was established several months prior.

In a social media post, Trump called on both sides to cease the violence, urging Israel and Iran to stop “shooting.” He later stated that the two nations were “seeking to establish an immediate ceasefire.”

The Israeli military reported that numerous fighter jets conducted strikes targeting Iranian defense systems in retaliation for the missile barrage from Iran.

Iran, however, indicated that additional military action might ensue, characterizing its attack as “the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes.”

Tehran stated that its missile launches were a response to Israel’s air strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut that occurred on Sunday. Israel stated that the operations aimed at positions associated with the Lebanese group Hezbollah followed the firing of rockets from Lebanon into Israeli territory.

The recent exchange has intensified worries regarding the potential for a wider regional conflict that could involve Iran, Israel, and armed factions associated with Tehran throughout the Middle East.

Trump reportedly advised Israel to refrain from retaliating against Iran prior to the strikes, cautioning against additional military action while diplomatic efforts were ongoing behind the scenes.

The recent resurgence of hostilities has disrupted months of relative tranquility between Israel and Iran, contributing to the uncertainty in a region already facing numerous conflicts and security challenges. Faridah Abdulkadiri
