Morocco ascends to seventh place in the FIFA rankings as the World Cup approaches

Atlas Lions ascend to seventh in FIFA rankings, bolstering their World Cup credentials following remarkable pre-tournament performances.

Morocco has ascended to seventh place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, solidifying their position among the elite in world football as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Atlas Lions advanced one position following a string of favorable outcomes in their final preparations for the tournament, amassing 1,756.94 ranking points to maintain their status as the highest-ranked team in Africa and the Arab world.

Morocco has surpassed the Netherlands in the standings after the Dutch experienced a setback with a 1-0 loss to Algeria.

The rise follows impressive recent performances, highlighted by a commanding 4-0 victory over Madagascar on Tuesday, which has further bolstered confidence within the squad as they approach the World Cup.

Walid Regragui’s team is set to take on Norway in their last friendly match on Sunday, just six days ahead of kicking off their World Cup journey against Brazil.

Morocco has been placed in Group C, where they will compete against Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti. While the Atlas Lions are anticipated to contend for a spot in the knockout stages, their encounter with five-time world champions Brazil is expected to be their most formidable challenge of the group phase.

As Morocco continues to establish itself among the game’s leading nations, it remains focused on closing the gap on the world’s top-ranked teams, with France, Spain, and Argentina currently occupying the top three places in the FIFA rankings.
