Kuwait Halts Flights Following Iranian Attack on Its Airport

Iranian missiles and drones struck Kuwait airport, while US forces intercepted attacks aimed at Bahrain and other regional assets.

Iran executed missile and drone strikes aimed at Kuwait and Bahrain on Tuesday, hitting Kuwait International Airport and triggering a fresh wave of US military response in the Gulf, as reported by US and regional officials.

Kuwait has suspended all flights following a missile strike that caused damage to a section of the airport’s Terminal 1 building and resulted in injuries to several individuals, according to state media reports. Authorities indicated that they were evaluating the scope of the damage prior to reinstating regular operations.

The US military reported that two Iranian missiles targeting Kuwait did not reach their intended destinations, while three missiles fired at Bahrain were successfully intercepted by US and Bahraini forces. US Central Command reported that Iranian ballistic missiles and drones aimed at regional neighbors did not successfully strike their intended targets.

The attacks followed US forces executing what they characterized as self-defense strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island. The US stated that the action was taken in response to attempted Iranian attacks and the ongoing threats to US personnel and assets in the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had initiated missile and drone strikes targeting the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet along with other military installations in the Gulf. Iranian media reported that the operation was a response to recent US strikes on Iranian facilities.

The recent exchanges have heightened uncertainty regarding the efforts to achieve a wider ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. Diplomatic talks are currently at a standstill, and the resurgence of military activity has heightened worries about the potential for the conflict to extend further throughout the Gulf region. Oil prices increased as investors responded to the most recent developments.

US officials reported that American forces intercepted drones targeting civilian shipping and military positions, while cautioning that any further attacks would prompt additional defensive measures.
