CIA officer taken into custody for purported involvement in a $40 million gold stash and connections to a Trump-era Pentagon official
A former CIA officer has been taken into custody following an FBI operation that reportedly uncovered $40 million in gold, cash, and watches during a raid on a residence in Virginia.
A former CIA officer has been apprehended in the United States following allegations that he kept millions of dollars in gold bars and cash at his residence, with reports connecting him to a high-ranking Pentagon official during the Trump administration.
David Rush, a 17-year veteran of the CIA who formerly served in a senior capacity within the agency’s Directorate of Science and Technology, was apprehended following the FBI’s recovery of over $40 million in gold bars from his home in Virginia. Officials seized approximately $2 million in cash along with luxury watches, including Rolex timepieces.
Court documents referenced by US media outlets reveal that investigators uncovered evidence indicating that Rush had previously solicited and received substantial amounts of foreign currency and gold bars, which he asserted were meant for work-related expenses. Authorities stated that they could not account for the assets during their investigation, which led to the raid.
Rush has reportedly asserted that the gold was acquired legitimately for operational purposes related to his intelligence work.
Media reports, including those from the New York Times and NBC News, highlighted that Rush had previously collaborated with billionaire Stephen A. Feinberg, who currently holds the position of deputy secretary of defense under President Donald Trump. The two reportedly had contact during Trump’s first term, as they both served on the president’s Intelligence Advisory Board. However, officials mentioned in reports indicated that they were not particularly close.
