Tupac Shakur’s estate has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Keefe D as the murder trial approaches
The protracted legal dispute surrounding Tupac Shakur’s 1996 murder took a new turn on Tuesday when the rapper’s family initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the sole individual ever charged in relation to the case.
Maurice “Mopreme” Shakur, Tupac’s stepbrother, submitted the civil complaint on behalf of the late artist’s estate. Court filings contend that Davis ought to be held financially responsible for the death of the prominent rapper, whose fatal shooting in Las Vegas continues to be one of music’s most examined unsolved crimes.
The lawsuit states that the estate is also including several unnamed defendants referred to as “John Does.” Attorneys argue that the purported scheme to murder Tupac included more individuals than just Davis, although investigators have not disclosed any further suspects to the public.
The filing mentions the 50 Cent-produced documentary series “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” which includes allegations that Davis purportedly stated Sean “Diddy” Combs could potentially offer seven figures for someone to target Tupac and Marion “Suge” Knight. No court has found those claims to be true, and Combs has refuted previous allegations related to the case.
Davis has openly admitted that he was present in the vehicle from which the shots were discharged on the night Tupac was assaulted near the Las Vegas Strip. Nonetheless, his differing accounts of the incident have evolved over the years, attracting increased attention from both investigators and the public, leading to questions about his credibility and the accuracy of his statements regarding the events of that night.
In 2023, Las Vegas police apprehended Davis and charged him regarding Shakur’s death. He has entered a plea of not guilty and continues to be the only defendant in the criminal case.
His criminal trial is set to commence in August.
Tupac Shakur, a highly regarded and commercially successful figure in hip-hop, passed away at the age of 25 following a shooting on September 7, 1996. He passed away six days later due to his injuries.
