Tottenham confirms that Xavi Simon tore his ACL, which means he will miss the World Cup

The Netherlands’ Xavi Simons will not be able to play in the World Cup because he needs surgery on his knee after tearing his ACL.

Tottenham Hotspur revealed on Monday that Xavi Simons will need surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Because of the injury, the midfielder is not likely to be able to play in the upcoming World Cup.

Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday resulted in Simons’ injury. In the 63rd minute, he was taken off on a bed.

The club said that the 23-year-old will have surgery in the next few weeks and then start training with Tottenham’s medical staff.

Simons wrote on Instagram on Sunday that his season had “come to an abrupt end” and that he was sad that he would also miss the World Cup.

Coach Ronald Koeman believed the Dutch player would play a crucial role in the event. He has played 34 times for his country as an adult, and his most recent game was in March, in a friendly.

The loss also affects Tottenham. They are currently 18th in the Premier League with 34 points, just two points above the relegation zone.
