Iran Proposes Reopening the Strait of Hormuz If the US Concludes Hostilities

EX: Iran is proposing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the US concludes the war, as oil prices increase amidst halted negotiations.

Iran has proposed to relinquish its control over the Strait of Hormuz if the US removes its sanctions and concludes the conflict.

US President Donald Trump appeared hesitant to accept the proposal, which was conveyed to the Americans by Pakistan, leaving the disputes that prompted the US and Israel to engage in conflict on February 28 unresolved.

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, stated that Trump’s national security team convened on Monday to discuss Iran’s proposal. However, she provided no specifics regarding the conversation or the reception of the proposal. She mentioned that Trump would discuss it at a later time.

Frustration is escalating among numerous nations, as renewed calls emerged on Monday to lift the blockade.

Trump stated that a primary reason for engaging in war was to prevent Iran from acquiring the capability to develop nuclear weapons.

On Monday, Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil prices, increased by more than 3 percent, reaching just below $109 (£80) a barrel.

Since the onset of the Iran war, global energy supplies have faced significant strain, as the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway has been largely obstructed by the ongoing conflict.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that “important discussions on bilateral matters and regional developments” were taking place with Oman, along the strait.

Brent crude has increased by over 10 percent since Trump declared last week that he would prolong a ceasefire with Tehran, allowing its leadership the opportunity to present a “unified proposal.”
