Trump Evacuated Following Gunshots That Disrupted White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Gunfire erupted at a White House Correspondents’ dinner, prompting the Secret Service to swiftly escort Donald Trump to safety amid the ensuing chaos.

Last night, United States President Donald Trump and several senior administration officials were swiftly evacuated from the room during the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) annual dinner due to a security incident.

In the meantime, diplomatic attempts to address the Middle East crisis have encountered yet another obstacle, as Trump on Saturday called off the scheduled visit of his envoys to Pakistan, thereby putting a stop to their progress toward the expected in-person discussions with Iranian officials.

Following the outbreak of gunshots, the Washington Hilton Hotel swiftly evacuated Trump and other government officials.

The US Secret Service announced that a suspect is in custody, and a report has confirmed that the shooter is deceased.

A senior administration official stated that Trump was in a secure location and had informed officials of his intention to return to the dinner.

Trump utilized Truth Social to announce that a “shooter has been apprehended” and commended the Secret Service and law enforcement officers for their “quick and brave” actions.

“I have suggested that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON,” but I will fully adhere to the guidance of law enforcement.” “They will make a decision shortly,” Trump stated in the post. “No matter the decision, the evening will unfold quite differently than anticipated, and we will simply have to do it again.”

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer stated on air that he was “a few feet away from (a gunman) as he was shooting.”

“Suddenly, a man with a weapon—a grave one—began shooting, and I was just a few feet away from him as it happened,” Blitzer recounted.

Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association that hosted the dinner, stated that the program will “resume momentarily.”

“I understand that everyone will be eager for as many details as possible.” “Currently, we do not have that,” Jiang informed the attendees, adding, “I ask for your patience as we determine how much time it will take, but it shouldn’t be much longer.”

A variety of high-ranking administration officials were present, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

CBS, the US-based media partner of the BBC, reported that the president and first lady, Melania Trump, were escorted away from the dais by the Secret Service.

After their departure, armed agents from the Counter Assault Team (CAT) were observed on stage, holding long guns directed toward the rear of the room.

Senior government officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel, were swiftly evacuated from the room following the sound of what seemed to be around five gunshots.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was escorted out by his security details.

As reported by pool sources and CNN, law enforcement swarmed the Washington Hilton while helicopters hovered above following the incident.

The BBC reported that Trump seemed to be in the midst of a conversation when he was interrupted by a disturbance at the White House table.

Loud bangs echoed through the air as several secret service members swiftly escorted the president away from the venue, urging those nearby to “stay down, stay down.”

Stephen Miller, a key adviser to Trump, was observed being led away from the crowd and out of the venue.

Initially, most other attendees crouched down during the commotion but stayed inside after the president was evacuated.

This marks the first security breach at the dinner in recent memory, if not ever. This marked the inaugural occasion for Trump to participate in the event while serving as president.

At the start of the event, Correspondents’ Association President Jiang expressed gratitude to Trump and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt for their presence.

“Your presence with us tonight holds great significance,” Jiang remarked. “Thank you, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, for all that you and your team do to collaborate with us daily, regardless of your feelings on the matter.”

Jiang expressed that covering the White House is the most rewarding assignment in all of journalism.

“Every single day, we have the privilege of covering the biggest story in the world,” she stated.
