Smokey Robinson Faces Significant Court Setback as Judge Dismisses Crucial Defamation Claims in Countersuit Against Four Sexual Assault Accusers

Smokey Robinson has recently faced a significant setback in court, drawing renewed attention to the women who are suing him. A judge in California dismissed portions of the Motown icon’s countersuit, determining that his defamation claims did not satisfy the legal criteria necessary to proceed.

The lawsuit involving Smokey Robinson focuses on four women who have previously alleged that the singer committed sexual assault. Robinson has refuted any misconduct and stated that the claims were invented to extort money from him.

Reports indicate that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kevin Brazile determined there was insufficient evidence to demonstrate that the women acted with actual malice. The court also ruled that certain statements in Robinson’s filing constituted protected activity, effectively removing the defamation component from the countersuit.

Nevertheless, the judge allegedly pointed out the inconsistencies and peculiar circumstances presented by Robinson’s side, which may affect the credibility of their claims and the overall outcome of the case. That indicates that although one lane is closed, the larger struggle continues to be active.

The case is now returning to the discovery phase for the women’s original lawsuits, allowing both parties to request records, testimony, and evidence ahead of anticipated hearings later this year.

Robinson’s legal team has announced their intention to file an appeal.
