Spurs seek police intervention regarding the ‘vile, dehumanizing’ racism directed at Danso

Tottenham Hotspur denounced on Sunday the “vile, dehumanizing racism” directed at defender Kevin Danso on social media following his mistake that allowed Brighton & Hove Albion to secure a late equalizer, placing the Premier League team in the relegation zone.

Brighton found the net in the final moments after the 27-year-old Austrian national team player was pushed off the ball, allowing Georginio Rutter to equalize at 2-2.
As they continue their search for their first league victory in 2026, Spurs find themselves in 18th place with just five games left in the season. “Kevin Danso has faced, and continues to face, severe and unacceptable racist abuse on social media,” Spurs stated regarding the latest incident of racism that sadly persists in European football.

We have witnessed and experienced abhorrent, dehumanizing racism. Conduct that undeniably constitutes a criminal offense. Such behavior will not be accepted.

Spurs announced that they would be reporting the content to London’s Metropolitan Police, relevant authorities, and social media platforms. UK police are adopting a firmer stance against individuals convicted of racism, implementing arrests and bans; however, they continue to face challenges in eradicating the issue, such as the need for more community engagement and education to prevent such behavior from occurring in the first place.

“We will advocate for the most robust measures against every individual we identify,” Spurs stated.

Kevin has our full and unwavering support both as a player and as an individual. No one at this club will ever face such adversity alone. “Nothing about form or league position can ever excuse or explain racist abuse.”

Danso acknowledged that he had noticed the comments aimed at him during a weekend when the Premier League was advocating for its “No Room For Racism” initiative. ” The racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere. However, it does not define me, nor will it divert my attention from what truly matters. ” I know who I am, what I stand for, and why I play,” he expressed on Instagram. “Now it’s about maintaining focus, putting in more effort, and returning stronger for the upcoming games.”
