Bayern Munich defeats VfB Stuttgart to win the Bundesliga title

Bayern Munich, in pursuit of a treble, clinched their 35th German league title on Sunday by defeating VfB Stuttgart 4-2, establishing an unassailable lead with four matches remaining.

Sunday’s outcome positioned Bayern 15 points ahead of second-place Borussia Dortmund.

The Bavarians, set to compete against Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final next week and then face Paris St. Germain in their Champions League semi-final on April 28, found themselves a goal down before swiftly scoring four times to turn the game around.

“It’s been a fantastic season for us,” said Bundesliga leading scorer Harry Kane, who also found the net on Sunday. “We’ve had a great season, but we still have much to strive for.”

Bayern have once again showcased their dominance in the Bundesliga this season, breaking the all-time league record for goals scored in a single campaign (101) by already finding the net 109 times with four matches still to play.

Kane, who currently leads the scoring chart with 32 goals, needs to score nine more times in the upcoming matches to match Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a Bundesliga season.

However, the England captain is currently on course to secure the top scorer trophy, and should he achieve this feat, he will become the first player to earn that title in his initial three seasons in the Bundesliga.

Coach Vincent Kompany, who succeeded Thomas Tuchel in 2024, has swiftly restored Bayern’s domestic supremacy, clinching back-to-back German league titles in his two seasons at the helm. This achievement comes after Leverkusen ended Bayern’s long-standing dominance with an unbeaten domestic double in 2024.

It all began with a goal from Stuttgart on Sunday, as Chris Fuehrich quieted the home crowd by slotting in from a Bilal El Khannouss assist, giving the visitors the lead in the 21st minute.

Bayern quickly responded, finding the net three times in just six minutes.

Raphael Guerreiro initiated the scoring by tapping in following an impressive solo run and cutback from Jamal Musiala in the 31st minute. Just two minutes later, Nicolas Jackson found the net, putting the hosts ahead and igniting the crowd’s celebratory spirit.

Alphonso Davies achieved their first-half turbo comeback by scoring another goal in the 37th minute.

They continued to score after the break, with substitute Kane adding another from close range just seven minutes after the restart, before Stuttgart managed to pull a goal back with Chema Andres late in the match.
