Swiss football club cancels Kanye West concert
Swiss football club FC Basel announced on Saturday the cancellation of a Kanye West concert, joining a growing list of European venues that have halted or postponed the U.S. rapper’s performances due to backlash over his previous antisemitic remarks.
FC Basel, which oversees concerts and events at their St. Jakob-Park venue, informed Reuters that after a comprehensive evaluation of the request for West to perform, they opted not to proceed with his performance. “FCB received an inquiry and considered it.” After careful consideration, we have chosen not to move forward with the project, as we cannot, in line with our values, offer a platform for the artist in question in this context,” a club spokesperson informed Reuters.
Reports from Swiss media indicated that the concert was scheduled for June.
A Polish stadium announced on Friday that it will cancel a West concert just days after he postponed a show in France. Earlier this month, Britain prevented the 48-year-old from traveling there to headline a festival.
In January, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, now referred to as Ye, issued an apology for his behavior, which he linked to untreated bipolar disorder, and he retracted his previous expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler.
