Authorities in Dubai have made an arrest; Daniel Kinahan is facing charges related to organized crime.

Law-enforcement source reported that Dubai police have apprehended Daniel Kinahan on Saturday, the alleged leader of an Irish crime gang, on charges related to organized criminal activity.

On Friday, Dubai police announced in a statement that they had apprehended an Irish fugitive for his purported involvement in an organized criminal group engaged in international crimes in his home country, although they did not disclose the name Kinahan. A source within law enforcement has confirmed that the individual in question is Daniel Kinahan.

The arrest took place on Wednesday, following the receipt of a judicial file from Irish authorities, according to the Dubai police.

In 2022, the United States identified Kinahan as one of the three leaders of the Kinahan organized crime group and announced a $5 million reward for their capture.

The U.S. Treasury compared the Kinahan drug trafficking gang to some of the most infamous crime networks globally, noting that the gang often utilizes Dubai as a center for illegal activities, similar to how other notorious organizations have operated in major cities around the world.

A lawyer representing Daniel Kinahan informed the BBC in 2021 that he possesses no criminal record or convictions, asserting that the allegations of him being a crime boss are untrue. Reuters was unable to reach representatives for Kinahan.

The Irish Times reported that the charges against Kinahan were connected to a gangland feud in Ireland, specifically involving rival gangs that have been implicated in violent incidents and drug trafficking activities.
