Tyler Perry is set to be honored with the Innovator Award at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards, recognizing his decades of influence in the film industry

Tyler Perry is poised to take center stage once more, this time for the influence he has had well beyond the screen.

The influential filmmaker, producer, and studio owner is set to be honored with the Innovator Award at the sixth annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards, an event recognized for acknowledging individuals who shape and impact Black culture in entertainment and media. This honor specifically acknowledges an individual who has significantly changed a particular genre within the entertainment industry, all while demonstrating enduring presence and reliability in their profession.

Perry’s career extends over three decades, and his productivity remains unwavering. By broadening his established Madea universe and launching new films and series through significant collaborations, he effortlessly navigates across various platforms. Current and forthcoming projects feature Netflix titles such as “Joe’s College Road Trip,” “Beauty in the Black” season two, and “The Six Triple Eight,” as well as films like “Mea Culpa” and “Straw.” He is also creating new content, such as “Where There’s Smoke” and “Why Did I Get Married Again?”

Perry’s business moves extend their influence beyond mere content. Tyler Perry Studios, located in Atlanta, represents a significant achievement, being the first major film studio entirely owned by a Black creator. The expansive property features several sound stages named in honor of prominent Black entertainers.

The event will be hosted by Tiffany Haddish, with Babyface as the musical director, and is set to take place on June 5 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The funds raised will benefit the Hollywood Cares Foundation, which is dedicated to initiatives for underserved youth in Black and Brown communities.
