Tanzania is looking into the death of an American social media influencer
Authorities in Tanzania have announced that they are interrogating the fiancé of U.S. social media influencer Ashly Robinson, who tragically passed away following an alleged suicide attempt during their vacation in Zanzibar, a popular tourist destination off the coast of the East African mainland.
Authorities have taken possession of the passport belonging to her partner, Joseph Isaac McCann, 45, who is also a U.S. citizen, as stated in a release made late on Tuesday.
Robinson, 31, also recognized by her social media name, Ashlee Jenae, and McCann arrived in Zanzibar on April 4 and checked into a hotel.
Subsequently, they relocated to a different hotel, where they were reported by hotel staff to be experiencing domestic conflicts, which raised concerns for their safety and led to the management placing the two individuals in separate rooms. The management then placed the two individuals in separate rooms.
“The police statement indicated that she tried to hang herself with a clothing belt that was tied inside a wardrobe in Room 25 of the hotel.” She passed away in the hospital on April 9 at approximately 9 p.m. local time while undergoing treatment. “Investigations into the matter are ongoing, pending professional medical reports and forensic examination from doctors,” police stated. McCann has not faced any charges. Reuters could not reach his lawyer for comment at this time.
