Mascherano Resigns as Inter Miami CF Manager Following Historic MLS Cup Victory

Javier Mascherano has stepped down as the coach of Inter Miami, citing personal reasons, following his achievement of guiding the club to its inaugural MLS Cup title in 2024.

Javier Mascherano, the former midfielder for Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona, has resigned from his position as manager of Inter Miami CF, citing personal reasons for his decision.

The 41-year-old, who assumed leadership in 2024, led the club to a remarkable achievement by clinching their inaugural MLS Cup title in 2025. In a statement, Mascherano announced his decision to conclude his tenure, expressing appreciation and pride regarding the accomplishment.

“I will always cherish the memory of our first star,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to support the club from a distance.

Mascherano once played alongside current Miami stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at FC Barcelona, and he also coached Argentina at the 2024 Olympics before accepting the position in Miami.

Guillermo Hoyos, who previously served as the club’s sporting director and coached Barcelona B, has been named as his immediate successor.

Inter Miami currently holds the third position in the MLS Eastern Conference after seven matches, following a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls last weekend.
