Ashlee Jenae’s death investigation takes a new direction as her fiancé’s passport is withheld in Tanzania

In a significant development in the investigation surrounding the death of Ashlee Jenae, authorities in Zanzibar, Tanzania, have taken the step of withholding her partner’s passport, thereby restricting his ability to leave the country as crucial questions continue to linger.

Ashly Robinson, 31, known as an influencer, passed away last week while on a widely covered vacation in Tanzania. Joe McCann, 45, her partner, is now pivotal to the timeline that authorities are attempting to construct. Although law enforcement emphasizes that he is not a suspect, his role as a witness has led them to implement steps to guarantee his availability for further questioning.

Holding his passport is a procedural measure frequently employed in international investigations when an individual is deemed essential for clarifying the circumstances related to a death. This enables authorities to retain access to the individual while awaiting forensic results, including the official medical examination report.

“Investigations into the case are ongoing, with the police indicating that they are awaiting the official medical examination report from doctors, suggesting that the complete picture has not yet emerged.”

Robinson’s last moments are still being examined closely. According to her family, she was discovered unconscious in her villa and subsequently transported to the hospital, where her death was confirmed a few hours later. Previous comments from local authorities indicated that she had tried to end her life, a statement her parents openly dispute.

During interviews, they expressed that her death “doesn’t make any sense” and characterized her as “a light” and a “beautiful person” who was “meant to be happy.” The abrupt transition from joy to sorrow has only heightened their worries. She had recently celebrated her birthday and become engaged during the trip. “And then she is simply gone,” her mother, Yolanda Endres, stated. “We are perplexed by how that could shift so significantly.”

Authorities have indicated that there was a reported misunderstanding between Robinson and McCann before her death, leading hotel staff to separate the two into different rooms. Concerns about a guest thought to be suicidal led to an escalation of the situation, resulting in intervention and, ultimately, an emergency response.

Robinson’s parents reported that they heard from McCann 11 hours after the incident, “not with a lot of detail,” and later received confirmation of her death from the hotel.

Currently, the withheld passport highlights a significant truth: investigators are keeping all options open. McCann remains in Zanzibar, neither under arrest nor free to leave, until investigators finalize medical findings and fully verify timelines.
