A poll indicates that Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro are tied in a potential election runoff
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro are in a statistical tie for a potential runoff in October’s general election, with the challenger leading Lula for the first time within the survey’s margin of error, according to a Quaest poll commissioned by brokerage Genial released on Wednesday.
The poll indicated that in a possible run-off, Flavio Bolsonaro holds 42% of the vote, while Lula follows closely with 40%.
The poll indicated that this result is the first instance in which the senator has outperformed Lula in a second-round scenario.
A March survey revealed an even match between the two candidates, each garnering 41% support in a potential runoff.
In the initial round, Lula is observed with 37% of the vote, in contrast to 32% for Flavio Bolsonaro.
Quaest conducted a survey involving 2,004 individuals from April 9 to April 13.
The poll has a margin of error of two percentage points in both directions.
