Federal Judge Dismisses Trump’s $10 Billion Lawsuit Against the Wall Street Journal Regarding Controversial Epstein Birthday Letter
A federal judge has imposed a significant obstacle in Donald Trump’s critical legal battle against the Wall Street Journal, dismissing his $10 billion defamation lawsuit while still allowing for the possibility of a resurgence.
The ruling, delivered on Monday morning, determined that Trump’s complaint did not adequately show that the publication acted with “actual malice” or a reckless disregard for the truth. The lawsuit focused on a Wall Street Journal report that claimed Trump wrote a controversial birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein, a statement that Trump has vehemently refuted.
The report indicates that the letter was characterized as handwritten and framed within the silhouette of a naked woman, purportedly containing a provocative exchange between Trump and Epstein. The note is said to have concluded with the phrase, “A pal is a wonderful thing.” Wishing you a happy birthday—may each day bring another delightful secret,” signed “Donald.”
Trump’s legal team contended that the narrative was completely invented, asserting that the outlet “completely fabricated the story ‘to damage President Trump’s character and integrity and misleadingly depict him in a false light.’” In light of those assertions, Trump pursued $10 billion in damages.
Even with the dismissal, the case remains open. The judge ruled the complaint “without prejudice,” granting Trump the chance to amend and resubmit the lawsuit. The deadline for any amended filing has been established as April 27.
The decision represents a notable, albeit possibly short-lived, obstacle in Trump’s continuing legal endeavors related to the reports concerning his purported links to Epstein.
