Mallorca: Eto’o’s 22-year reign concludes

A chapter closes in La Liga as Samuel Eto’o is no longer the all-time leading scorer in RCD Mallorca’s league history.

With a brace against Rayo Vallecano on Matchday 31, Vedat Muriqi increased his tally to 55 La Liga goals for the club, breaking the long-standing record held by the Cameroonian for over twenty years.

Prior to establishing himself as an icon at FC Barcelona and making a mark at Inter Milan, Eto’o had already crafted his reputation while playing for Mallorca.

He arrived on loan in 2000 from Real Madrid and quickly made a name for himself as a formidable striker, leading the club to take up its option to buy.

Over the course of four seasons, he accumulated 64 goals in total across all competitions, with 54 of those in La Liga, making a significant impact on the legacy of the Bermellones.
