US and the UK are considering military action to secure the Strait of Hormuz

UK and US are evaluating military actions to guarantee security and safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz area.

During his Gulf visit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer informed reporters that “we’ve been pulling together a coalition of countries” following discussions on military capabilities and Strait of Hormuz logistics with US President Donald Trump.

On Friday, Keir Starmer stated that he and Trump had a conversation the previous day regarding the logistics of navigating vessels through the Strait, amid increased regional tensions.

“We have been assembling a coalition of nations focused on a political and diplomatic strategy, while also considering military capabilities and the logistics involved in transporting vessels through the Strait,” Starmer stated during his visit to the Gulf.

Starmer revealed that the conversation with Trump primarily focused on contingency planning. “The discussion last night centered on reflecting on my previous points while also emphasizing the necessity of a practical plan regarding navigation through the Strait.”

He refrained from offering additional information regarding the specific military options that were evaluated.

When asked about whether he discussed US threats of withdrawing from NATO with Trump, Starmer did not provide a direct answer but emphasized the importance of the alliance. “NATO serves as a defensive alliance that has, for many years, ensured our safety far beyond what we might have experienced otherwise,” he stated. “It serves the interests of both the US and Europe.”

Officials report that diplomatic and military coordination efforts continue as allies consider their responses to threats against shipping lanes, particularly in light of recent escalations in maritime tensions that could impact global trade and security.
