Macron extends an invitation to Trump for a dinner at Versailles following the G7 summit
French President Emmanuel Macron has invited Donald Trump to a dinner at Versailles following the G7 summit in France, according to reports.
According to insiders, US President Donald Trump has been invited by French President Emmanuel Macron to a high-profile dinner at the Palace of Versailles after the next G7 summit in France.
This year’s G7 conference will take place in France from June 15–17 in Évian-les-Bains, and Macron is reportedly organizing an extravagant post-summit banquet at Versailles. It’s still unclear, though, if Trump will attend the dinner event or the meeting.
The invitation coincides with escalating diplomatic tensions between Trump and a number of G7 leaders, notably Keir Starmer of the UK, especially over differences about NATO cooperation and Iran policy.
Trump’s attendance at the G7 is still up in the air, and Macron’s attempts to demonstrate unity among Western allies would be severely hampered by his possible absence.
French officials pointed out that the format of any Versailles celebration is still being finalized, while White House officials confirmed the invitation but stated that Trump had not decided whether or not to attend.
