Surprise as Hakimi omitted from the FOE award final list

A surprising development has emerged in African football in France, as Achraf Hakimi has not been included in the final shortlist for the 2026 Marc-Vivien Foe Award, which was revealed by RFI and France 24.

Even though he is the reigning champion and has enjoyed an impeccable season with Paris Saint-Germain, the Moroccan fullback is facing consequences due to his legal issues.

Reports from L’Equipe indicate that the organizers chose to exclude the defender following his indictment on rape charges, a decision made in accordance with the award’s code of conduct.

Certainly, the regulations of the Marc-Vivien Foe Award are clear-cut. In addition to athletic performance, nominees are required to exhibit outstanding conduct both on and off the field.

As legal proceedings are in progress, the Moroccan star has failed to uphold this ethical standard, which the jury deems essential.

The 11 nominees for the 2026 edition are as follows:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon / Olympique de Marseille)
Lamine Camara (Senegal/AS Monaco).
Bamba Dieng (Senegal/ FC Lorient)
Guéla Doué (Ivory Coast/ RC Strasbourg)
Martial Godo (Ivory Coast/ RC Strasbourg)
Ilan Kebbal (Algeria/ Paris FC)
Hervé Koffi (Burkina Faso / Angers SCO)
Arsène Kouassi (Burkina Faso / FC Lorient)
Aïssa Mandi (Algeria / LOSC Lille)
Moussa Niakhaté (Senegal / Olympique Lyonnais)
Mamadou Sangaré (Mali / RC Lens)
