Carragher lets go on Konate following Liverpool’s error
After Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to PSG in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, Jamie Carragher was quite direct in his assessment.
The ex-Reds defender, who is now a pundit, offered a strong critique of Arne Slot’s tactical choices, especially his five-man defensive setup.
He believed that this arrangement unsettled the team and needlessly compromised its defense. “The manager attempted a strategy, but he executed it entirely incorrectly,” he assessed on CBS Sports, contending that Liverpool had, ironically, faced greater challenges in this formation than with a conventional four-man defense.
However, it was Ibrahima Konate’s performance specifically that faced criticism from the former England international.
Carragher was quite critical, not holding back in highlighting the French defender’s concerning inconsistency: “He’s been disastrous all season and was bad again tonight.” He commits an error in each game.
“Powerful statements, which stand in stark contrast to his more forgiving perspective on Virgil van Dijk, whom he believes is unjustly scrutinized.”
Even with this critical evaluation, Carragher emphasized the caliber of the Parisian rival, drawing a comparison to Pep Guardiola’s FC Barcelona.
