Uganda has announced a visa waiver for AFCON 2027 to enhance its tourism efforts
The Government of Uganda has announced a significant policy change designed to enhance tourism and encourage fan engagement in anticipation of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which includes a temporary visa waiver for international visitors.
Dr. Dennis Mugimba has announced that the Cabinet of Uganda has approved a visa-free entry period, which will commence one month before the start of AFCON 2027 and continue until one month after the tournament ends. The initiative is an integral component of a larger strategy aimed at establishing the country as a leading destination for the continental football showcase.
The decision is anticipated to simplify travel arrangements greatly for football fans, tourists, and stakeholders who are planning to attend the tournament, which Uganda will co-host with its East African partners under the “Pamoja EA 2027” banner.
Officials are confident that the waiver will enhance stadium attendance and boost economic activity in areas like hospitality, transport, and local commerce. Uganda seeks to draw a significant influx of international visitors by eliminating entry barriers, all while highlighting its rich cultural heritage, diverse wildlife, and tourism opportunities.
“This decision aims to attract more visitors to Uganda as part of the marketing and promotion of Destination Uganda,” Dr. Mugimba stated.
As preparations for AFCON 2027 accelerate, the visa waiver highlights Uganda’s dedication to hosting a successful and inclusive tournament, using football as a driver for economic growth and regional integration.
