Silva will leave Man City at the conclusion of the season, as confirmed by the assistant manager
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed on Sunday that Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva will depart the club at the conclusion of the season.
The 31-year-old Portugal international, who has secured six Premier League titles and the Champions League during a nine-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium, will leave as a free agent when his contract concludes at the end of the season. “Every good story comes to an end,” Lijnders remarked to reporters following City’s 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final triumph over Liverpool. I hope he enjoys the remaining months—there are just six weeks left—and has a wonderful farewell. He truly merits all that attention.
Pep Guardiola, who was under a touchline suspension during the match, has previously referred to Silva as “irreplaceable.”
Silva made his move to City from AS Monaco in 2017 for a reported fee of around 43.5 million pounds ($57.35 million) and has since accumulated 450 appearances for the club. Renowned for his tactical adaptability, exceptional technique, and relentless work ethic, the midfielder has been a fundamental part of City’s lineup under Guardiola.
Following their victory in the League Cup last month, City continues to vie for a domestic treble as the 2025-26 campaign approaches its conclusion, even though they are nine points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal. The Manchester club has a game in hand and eight matches left to close the gap.
