Luka Dončić Out for Remainder of Season Due to Hamstring Injury

Lakers Star Confronts Playoff Absence and Possible Awards Challenge Following On-Court Departure

The Los Angeles Lakers’ postseason aspirations faced a significant setback on Friday as the team announced that superstar Luka Dončić will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old experienced a grade 2 left hamstring strain in the third quarter of Thursday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This kind of injury usually keeps a player out for a minimum of a month, and with the NBA Playoffs scheduled to begin on April 18, the timing essentially concludes Dončić’s season.

Although the Lakers have not provided a specific date for his return, the nature of the recovery timeline indicates that he will not be available for the bracket. Following the early exit, his agent, Bill Duffy of WME Basketball, informed ESPN that he intends to submit an “Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge” to ensure Dončić remains eligible for end-of-season awards.

Beyond the realm of basketball, the injury occurs amidst an intense legal dispute involving Dončić and his former fiancée, Anamaria Goltes. Dončić has recently submitted a motion to dismiss a child support petition filed by Goltes in Los Angeles, contending that California lacks jurisdiction in this case.

Legal documents indicate that Dončić asserts he, Goltes, and their two daughters, Gabriela, aged 2, and Olivia, aged 3 months, do not reside in California and primarily spend their time in Slovenia. He had initiated family law proceedings in Slovenia in February and believes that Goltes filed in Los Angeles to take advantage of the substantial child support that California is renowned for.

Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, Dončić’s representatives emphasize that his primary concern remains his children. “Luka has consistently ensured that his daughters have everything they need or desire and will persist in doing so,” a spokesperson stated on March 24. “He will consistently strive to be with his daughters and provide them with the best life possible.” Luka is requesting the dismissal of this case on the grounds that Slovenia, rather than California, is the proper forum for resolving this dispute, as he believes that the legal matters concerning his daughters’ welfare should be addressed in their home country where they have been raised and where their needs can be better understood.
