Don Lemon is contemplating a possible run for the presidency in 2028
The ex-CNN anchor considers his political possibilities.
With the 2028 election cycle starting to unfold, Don Lemon has emerged as a notable figure in the discussion.
The former CNN anchor recently indicated that a presidential bid is a possibility, expressing confidence that his leadership could exceed that of Donald Trump. Lemon has not officially launched his campaign, but he acknowledged that he has considered the possibility.
While appearing on the Pod Save America podcast, he remarked that “it could happen” if the circumstances were favorable, although he conveyed some reluctance regarding the existing party system, particularly expressing concerns about the challenges of running as a candidate outside the traditional two-party framework.
“I believe I have the potential to become the president of the United States.” I am certain I could govern this country more effectively than Donald Trump. As an independent, it would be quite challenging for me to run for any position. The current structure of the system necessitates that I select a side. Consequently, I would likely need to align myself with the Democratic Party. Have I reached that point now? “No,” observed Lemon. “While I don’t aspire to the presidency, I believe I could govern this country more effectively than Donald Trump.”
Lemon utilized the platform to emphasize the double standards he observes in the political arena. He contended that the “rules are different” for him in contrast to white male candidates, highlighting the rhetoric employed by others that has not elicited the same degree of professional or social backlash, such as the controversial statements made by Donald Trump that were largely overlooked or excused by his supporters. “I’ve never claimed that I would grab anyone by the p*ssy. I have never claimed that a woman had blood coming out of her anywhere. However, I am not a white man,” he clarified. “The rules apply differently to me.” It seems that, unfortunately, the rules apply differently to women. They vary for Hillary Clinton, for Nikki Haley… they vary for Kamala Harris. White men often face fewer consequences compared to women, Black individuals, or any minority group.
In spite of these challenges, the seasoned journalist continues to embrace the possibility of a future in public service. “Do I ever contemplate it?” Indeed. Is it possible?” “Indeed, such an event could occur if the appropriate opportunity arose,” Lemon remarked.
These remarks arise amidst a challenging period for Lemon, who has recently entered a not-guilty plea to federal charges following his indictment in January. The charges originated from his attendance at an anti-ICE demonstration held at a church in Minneapolis, which Lemon asserts he was present for solely in a journalistic role.
