Tiger Woods Informs Deputies He Was on a Call with “The President” Prior to His Arrest
Tiger Woods casually said something that left more questions than answers in the midst of a hectic roadside incident.
Woods is seen on the phone shortly after his car flipped close to his Jupiter Island house in recently released body camera footage from a collision that occurred in Florida on March 27. He closes the call with a courteous “Thank you so much” as he makes his way back toward the deputies. Okay. You understand. Goodbye. “Thank you,” he said. “Yeah, I was just speaking with the president.”
Who was on the other end is not confirmed by the video. But the remark instantly brought attention to Woods’ longtime golf companion, Donald Trump. The claim has not been addressed by the White House.
Following the collision, which happened when his Land Rover clipped a pickup vehicle and overturned, authorities detained Woods, 50, and charged him with DUI. There were no reported injuries. Deputies say Woods acknowledged that he had been changing the radio and checking his phone.
A deputy on the scene informed him, “I do believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you’re under an unknown substance, so at this time you’re under arrest for DUI.”
Later, officers discovered that he was in possession of hydrocodone. Woods entered a not guilty plea.
A few days later, Woods declared that he will take a break from golf to receive treatment, stating, “This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
In an interview with Reuters, Trump described the ruling as “a good thing,” saying, “He’s one of the greatest people I’ve known… he’ll be fine.”
