Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández Excluded From Two Matches Following Remarks About Real Madrid
Chelsea has sanctioned Enzo Fernández, sidelining him for two matches following his remarks about wanting to reside in Madrid.
Enzo Fernández will be absent from Chelsea FC’s upcoming two matches following the club’s decision to sanction him for remarks made during the international break regarding a potential future in Spain.
The 25-year-old midfielder expressed on a podcast earlier this week his desire to live in Madrid, amidst ongoing speculation connecting him to Real Madrid. His comments followed Chelsea’s Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, during which Fernández also expressed doubts about his future at the club.
Head coach Liam Rosenior has confirmed that Fernández will not be available for Saturday’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Port Vale, nor for next weekend’s Premier League match against Manchester City.
“I had a conversation with Enzo about an hour ago,” Rosenior stated. “As a football club, with my involvement in the decision, he will not be available for tomorrow’s match or for the game against Manchester City next Sunday.”
Rosenior characterized the situation as disheartening, emphasizing that Fernández’s remarks overstepped boundaries regarding the club’s culture. “I have no negative comments about him, but a boundary was crossed regarding our culture and the vision we aim to create,” he added.
Rosenior highlighted that, despite the sanction, the decision is not final and that Fernández continues to be a significant presence at the club. “The door remains open for Enzo.” It is a sanction. “It is essential to safeguard the culture,” he stated.
