Trump Fires Attorney General Pam Bondi
Trump has dismissed Pam Bondi from her position as attorney general and has appointed Todd Blanche as the acting replacement, continuing the cabinet reshuffle in his second term.
US President Donald Trump has dismissed Pam Bondi from her position as attorney general, announcing that she will move on to a new role in the private sector as part of a larger restructuring within his administration.
Trump announced on Truth Social that Bondi would be resigning after more than a year in the position, commending her service and impact on law enforcement.
“Pam Bondi is an exemplary American patriot and a steadfast friend who has diligently served as my attorney general over the past year,” Trump stated. “Pam excelled in managing a significant initiative against crime throughout our country, resulting in murders dropping to their lowest level since 1900.”
He stated, “We have immense affection for Pam, and she will be moving on to a vital and significant new role in the private sector, which will be revealed soon. Our Deputy Attorney General, a highly skilled and esteemed legal expert, Todd Blanche, will take over as Acting Attorney General.”
Bondi’s departure signifies the third notable exit from Trump’s cabinet during his current term, following the previous departures of Kristi Noem and Mike Waltz, whose roles were integrated into Marco Rubio’s portfolio.
The recent reshuffle occurs in the context of insights from political analysts noting that Trump’s second term had, until now, experienced fewer sudden changes in comparison to his first administration from 2017 to 2020, which was characterized by regular dismissals and high turnover.
In his first term, Trump gained a reputation for swift staff changes, notably the dismissals of Sally Yates, Michael Flynn, James Comey, Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon, and Tom Price within his initial year in office.
Press operations experienced swift changes, as Sean Spicer and Anthony Scaramucci departed, the latter leaving after merely ten days in the position.
Bondi’s removal indicates a potential shift towards a renewed cabinet restructuring as Trump continues to influence his administration in his second term, with additional changes likely anticipated in the months ahead.
