Ghana Parts Ways with Coach Otto Addo Just 72 Days Before World Cup

Ghana has parted ways with head coach Otto Addo following disappointing results, leaving the Black Stars without a coach just weeks ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The Ghanaian football association announced on Tuesday that head coach Otto Addo has been dismissed, just 72 days before the commencement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision came after a 2–1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart while preparing for the tournament, just days following a significant 5–1 loss in Austria.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the immediate departure of Otto Addo, the head coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), in a statement.”

Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund player, was appointed for a second stint in March 2024 but did not manage to qualify Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite having Premier League players Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus in his squad.

The 50-year-old achieved 8 victories and 9 losses in 22 matches while managing the Black Stars.

Addo previously guided Ghana during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the team achieved a 3–2 victory against South Korea but was eliminated at the group stage after losses to Portugal and Uruguay.

Ghana, in their fifth World Cup appearance, find themselves in Group L with Croatia, England, and Panama.
