US Senate supports a DHS funding package that excludes ICE and several aspects of border security

The US Senate approves a DHS funding package that does not include ICE since agencies must wait for House approval before beginning partial government operations again.

According to many media sources, the US Senate has approved a financing package for the majority of the Department of Homeland Security, with the exception of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and portions of Customs and Border Protection.

The United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration are two important DHS agencies that will receive cash from the measure, which was passed in a rare overnight session on Friday.

Despite the funding arrangement’s partial exclusions, lawmakers adopted the bill by voice vote, indicating widespread support in the Senate.

The finance strategy is not yet complete, though. The US House of Representatives must still pass the measure before impacted Department of Homeland Security agencies can fully resume operations.

The development highlights ongoing discussions in Congress regarding financing priorities, especially with regard to immigration enforcement organizations like Immigration and Customs Enforcement and aspects of Customs and Border Protection that were not included in the current deal.
