DoorDash introduces emergency assistance as rising fuel costs impact gig workers across the US

Food delivery company DoorDash (DASH.O) announced on Monday that it is launching an emergency relief program aimed at assisting U.S. gig workers in managing increasing fuel costs.

The decision follows as U.S. gig workers contend with rising gasoline prices, influenced by increased crude oil prices resulting from supply disruptions linked to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. Retail gasoline prices across the nation have surged by over 30% in the last month, approaching $4 per gallon.

Through the program, delivery drivers who accumulate a minimum of 125 miles per week on DoorDash orders will be eligible for a weekly fuel-relief payment.

Payments begin at $5 and increase to a maximum of $15, based on the miles driven.

The program, running until April 26, may enable eligible drivers to save as much as $1.90 per gallon each week, according to the company.
