Egypt has appointed a new defence minister, according to a statement
Egypt announced on Wednesday the appointment of General Ashraf Salem Zaher Mansour as the new defence minister, according to a statement from the presidency, marking a relatively modest cabinet reshuffle.
Mansour, previously the Commandant of the Egyptian Military Academy, succeeded General Abdel Majeed Saqr, who had held the position of the country’s defence minister since July 2024.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives, which is the lower house of the Egyptian parliament, approved the cabinet reshuffle, as reported by state media; however, Mansour’s appointment was not disclosed at that moment.
