UN Chief Cancels Trip to Davos Because of “A Bad Cold”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres missed his scheduled speech at the World Economic Forum after canceling his appearance due to “a bad cold.”

António Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, has canceled his trip to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, where he was supposed to give a special speech.

Citing health concerns, a UN official confirmed the development on Tuesday. Rolando Gomez claims that Guterres became unwell and had to leave the high-level meeting.

“Unfortunately, the Secretary-General is unable to attend the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos. In response to inquiries from reporters, Gomez stated, “It was supposed to happen tomorrow, but he has a bad cold.”

To examine urgent global economic and political challenges, the World Economic Forum convenes world leaders, legislators, corporate executives, and members of civil society. The UN will not be represented at the event at the secretary-general level this year due to Guterres’ absence.

Whether the address would be rescheduled or given in a different format was not specified.
