The Nobel Institute states that the Peace Prize cannot be transferred following Machado’s suggestion

The Nobel Peace Prize cannot be transferred, shared, or rescinded, according to the Norwegian Nobel Institute. This comes after Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado hinted that she could present her 2025 prize to US President Donald Trump.

The institution said in a statement that the Nobel Foundation’s laws, which forbid appeals, make the decision to award a Nobel Prize final and irrevocable. Additionally, the organization pointed out that committees that give out the prizes don’t comment on the deeds or remarks made by laureates after they receive their medals.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute stated on Friday that once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be withdrawn, shared, or given to another person. “The judgment is final and unchangeable.”

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday, Machado stated that giving Trump the award would be a gesture of appreciation from the Venezuelan people for the overthrow of their president, Nicolás Maduro, who was taken prisoner by the US last week.

Hannity said, “Did you ever offer to give him the Nobel Peace Prize?” “Did that truly occur?”

“Well, it hasn’t happened yet,” she replied.

During a scheduled meeting in Washington next week, Trump, who has long expressed interest in receiving the award and has occasionally connected it to diplomatic accomplishments, stated he would be pleased to accept it if Machado offered it.

Former National Assembly member Machado was disqualified by Maduro-aligned institutions from contesting in Venezuela’s general election in 2024.

Maduro declared victory, but she supported a stand-in candidate who was generally seen as having won the poll. Independent observers’ audits of the ballots revealed anomalies in the official results.
