Report: The owner fired John Harbaugh over the phone

John Harbaugh, the longstanding head coach, was fired by Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti over the phone on Tuesday when he was driving home from the team’s suburban Baltimore headquarters, according to an article published on Saturday.

The 63-year-old Harbaugh, who led the Ravens to a Super Bowl XLVII triumph in 2013, had a meeting on Monday with general manager Eric DeCosta, executive vice president Ozzie Newsome, and team president Sashi Brown to discuss his plans for the franchise’s future, according to The Athletic.

Despite not being there at that meeting, Bisciotti, the Ravens’ main owner since 2004, apparently talked to a number of players on Tuesday to find out what they thought of Harbaugh.

It appears that Bisciotti spoke with Harbaugh once more on Thursday in order to provide more justification for his dismissal.

This season, Baltimore finished 8-9, their worst record since 2021. Baltimore only finished with fewer than eight wins and below.500 three times in Harbaugh’s eighteen seasons in charge.

After defeating the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 on February 3, 2013, the Ravens made the postseason 12 times but haven’t made it back to the Super Bowl since.

Baltimore finished 180-113 in the regular season and 13-11 in the postseason before Harbaugh left. As a head coach, he holds the NFL record with eight road playoff victories.
