Adams honors Dr. Congo’s fan after Super Eagles’s victory

Following Nigeria’s 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles forward Akor Adams took a moment off the field to honor a remarkable fan from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The DR Congo supporter who has drawn notice for his constant tribute to Patrice Lumumba, the late Congolese independence leader and Pan-African symbol, was struck by Adams, who scored the second goal in the victory following Victor Osimhen’s first goal.

The Eagles’ striker saw the supporter, who frequently shows up at significant football games celebrating Lumumba’s memory.

The gesture came when DR Congo superfan Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, who has been commemorating the African independence fighter by standing still throughout games, was made fun of by Algerian player Mohammed Amoura.

But Amoura later expressed regret.

Many fans praised Adams for using his position to acknowledge the value of history and recollection, beyond the excitement of football, and the moment struck a chord with them on social media.

During their Round of 16 match against DR Congo, Algerian players made fun of the celebration, which caused spectators to react negatively.

Although Nigeria will now play Morocco in the semifinals, Adams’ homage serves as a reminder that football is more than simply a sport because it frequently touches on culture, history, and common human admiration.
