During the Atlanta arraignment, the suspect in the Beyoncé unreleased music theft case says he is “not guilty”
Kelvin Evans is facing consequences for allegedly stealing hard drives and tour schedules during the Cowboy Carter stop.
Atlanta is officially witnessing the start of the high-stakes legal battle over the stolen Beyoncé music.
In a courtroom in Fulton County, Kelvin Evans virtually appeared on Wednesday to answer for the well-publicized theft. Evans pleaded not guilty to the charges of criminal trespass and entering a car with the intent to steal during the hearing.
He previously secured a $20,000 bond in October to ensure his release, but he still has a long way to go in his legal battle. To decide the next course of action in the prosecution, the judge has now set a case management meeting for February 11.
The drama started when Queen Bey visited Mercedes-Benz Stadium last July with her “Cowboy Carter” tour. A security breach was affecting her inner circle while the city was experiencing the “Beyoncé effect.” Diandre Blue, the dancer, and Christopher Grant, her choreographer, had parked their rental Jeep Wagoneer at the Krog Street Market for around an hour. They returned to see their stuff gone and the trunk window broken.
Mr. Grant also told the authorities that he was carrying some sensitive personal information for Beyoncé, the performer, according to the report. The hard drives held set lists from the past and future, filming plans for the performance, watermarked music, and some unreleased songs.
In addition to the invaluable musical data, the robber also stole a number of laptops, fancy sunglasses, and AirPods Max headphones. Evans was already in detention for an unrelated parole violation when investigators finally located him and connected him to the crime in September.
While Evans was incarcerated, the products were purportedly found by authorities thanks to digital tracking on the stolen equipment.
